The big decision has been made: to install a swimming pool. Butterflies of excitement are fluttering as I start to think about what shape and colour to choose. Then I realise how many styles there are to choose from and suddenly feel overwhelmed. Will I choose the right pool for our family? What if the colour is not quite right? Do I attach a spa, swim jet, lights…?
Stop. Breathe. Focus.
Ok, I need to start from the beginning. I need to think about the entire backyard, how we currently use it and how we intend to use it in the future.
We love having friends over and enjoy entertaining with long barbecues, particularly during the warmer months. We love playing cricket and bocce, reading books and magazines, wining and dining, chatting and playing charades.
The pool will be the star feature of our yard, but must not take over the outside space, as we will undoubtedly continue to enjoy activities that aren’t pool related. Therefore, we don’t need the biggest pool, but a pool big enough for kids to have fun splashing around in. As we love to entertain, an underwater bench seat will be perfect for our adult friends to enjoy a wine and a chat; and underwater lighting is a must as we often find ourselves enjoying company long into summer nights. Shade sails are essential for comfortable poolside reading, glass pool fencing for a seamless backyard and paving around the pool to reduce slippage for the kids.
A picture is painted. The decision is clear. For our circumstances, the Aqua Technics “Empire” seems to be the perfect fit. As the excitement builds, I feel confident that the right decision has been made.
Now to think about the outside furniture…
